Training and Awareness program kicks off in Papua New Guinea

The NTU project office in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea under the Building Resilience to Climate Change- CS Package No. 02- Enabling Framework for Port Design Consultants (PEFC), Part A  has kicked off with its Training and Awareness program. The trainings were scheduled from August to September, 2020. The commencement of online presentation begun on August 21st 2020. The two deliverables produced: The Guidance Manual Design of Climate Change Resilient Coastal Port Infrastructure from operations and Guidance Manual for Undertaking Site-Specific Vulnerability Assessments and Formulation of Port Infrastructure Climate Change Risk Management Plans were used to train and raise awareness with the main stakeholders. The recipient or the Implementing Agency PNG Ports Corporation (PNGPCL) and representative from the Executing Agency Climate Change Development Authority (CCDA) were the first stakeholders that underwent the Four (4) Training Modules which covered the Structural and Coastal aspects of the Design Manual. 

The Training of the Design Manual ran from 21st- 28th August 2020. Lead Presenter, The International Expert- Structural Engineer Mr. Fred Salisbury presented to the participants from Engineering, Operations and Compliance Division of PNGPCL and CCDA. Similarly, for the other Manual Lead presenter, Team Leader Mr. Chris Manu, International Expert Marine Infratructure Specialist presented on the Guidance Manual for Undertaking Site-Specific Vulnerability Assessments and Formulation of Port Infrastructure Climate Change Risk Management Plans, trainings will continue throughout September.The operational aspects of both Manuals are yet to be presented over the next couple of weeks before the team reaches out to the other identified stakeholders, Papua New Guinea Institute of Engineers (IEPNG), University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), Department of Transport  (DoT) and National Maritime Safety Authority (NMSA) within the National Capital District. It is an evolving process so comments and recommendations received from the stakeholders will be used to incorporate into the manuals.
