EU-Asia Symposium on UAS/UAM, Singapore, 18-21 Oct 2022
26th of October, 2022
NTU provided logistical support to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
Last week our team once again provided logistical support to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in the organization of the inaugural regional Symposium on UAS/UAM. Participants were from national authorities, state secretariats, ministries, universities, and aviation industries coming from the EU, South, Southeast and North Asia, as well as New Zealand, of which approximately 140 attended onsite and approximately 40 attended online.
This event was significant as this was the first-time regulators from Europe and Asia-Pacific were gathered to discuss UAS and UAM regulations alongside leading industry players and researchers. With over 20 civil aviation authorities participating in the four-day symposium, there was great engagement of industry players and researchers, discussions on UAS and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) development and regulations and a field visit to the Maritime Drone Estate was held to learn how Singapore facilitates the development of novel technology in a regulatory test-bed environment.
Most notably, EASA and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on urban air mobility to support the development, deployment and safe operation of VTOL aircraft. The agreement is the first such transnational agreement on urban air mobility CAAS has signed with a foreign regulatory authority and will discuss strategies on public outreach so that members of the public are more comfortable with this new mode of transport, while co-organising urban air mobility conferences and events to share knowledge.
