NTU is short-listed for EU Africa Infrastructure Partnership, preparatory actions and studies, regional transport study of Trans African highway No 3 with prefeasibility study of selected road sections

The trans-African highway No 3 is linking the Mediterranean Sea from Tripoli in Libya to the Atlantic Ocean with Windhoek in Namibia. Although the course of the official corridor is fixed, with a possible extension to Cape Town, many alternative routes have been proposed without conclusive or binding outcome, especially through the countries of Gabon–Republic of the Congo–Democratic Republic of the Congo–Angola, linking the SADC and ECCAS regions and with the proposed Kinshasa–Brazzaville bridge. The study will comprise the following components: 1. market study and transport demand analysis of the area of influence and study of regional traffic and trade flows (passenger and freight); 2. pre-feasibility study of identified road section with outline design, including traffic demand forecasts, assessment of investment and maintenance cost, economic evaluation, social and environmental screening and analysis and development of financing options and associated stakeholder consultation; 3. strategic options study of the ports of Pointe-Noire and the new deepwater port to be built in Banana; 4. trade and transport facilitation measures for the corridor and development of options and recommendations in line with regional efforts.
