New award! ADB TA Railway project in Pakistan

NTU has been awarded the ADB-funded project: PAK: CAREC Railway Connectivity Investment Program.

The proposed investment program will be designed to finance part of the government’s initiative for upgrading the Mainline-1 (ML-1) with 4 tranches:

 

(I)  tranche 1 for upgrading and dualization of rail track for Peshawar-Rawalpindi (173 km) including new signaling and telecommunications system (including power supply for these systems) and upgrading of passenger facilities in Peshawar and Rawalpindi stations

(II)  tranche 2 for construction of new double-track rail line for Kaluawal-Pindora (52 km)

(III) tranche 3 for rehabilitation and dualization of rail track for Lahore-Lalamusa (133 km) including new signaling and telecommunications system (including power supply for these systems) and upgrading of passenger facilities in Lahore station; 

(IV) tranche 4 for rehabilitation and dualization of rail track for Lalamusa-Rawalpindi (105 km excluding the Kaluwal-Pindora section) including new signaling and telecommunications system (including power supply for these systems).

The investment program will also support purchases of locomotives and rolling stocks that will be required to meet the improved line capacities on this section.

 

NTU is engaging international and national expertise in developing the following tasks:

  •   Assessment of Railway Sector and MFF Packaging
  • Technical feasibility assessment, cost estimation, engineering design update, and procurement packaging for Tranche 1 Project
  •  Safeguards
  •  Social, Poverty, and Gender Analysis for Tranche 1 Project
  •  Financial Analysis and Management Assessment
  •  Economic Assessment for Tranche 1 Project

 

NTU project office will be based in Lahore for the duration of the assignment.

The project is due to start on 2nd of January, 2017, with a duration of 6 months, and a total budget of 1.000.000 USD.
