NTU will be promoting rail freight transportation as a consortium partner in this project led by WYG International, awarded in August 2007, and with a value of 2 164 750 EUR. The FERRMED project involves rail freight transportation and connections in the following countries: Russia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, Andorra, Spain, Morocco and Algeria. The project will undertake a supply/demand study, a technical study, and a socio-economic study, which aim to analyse different modes of freight transportation systems in the Scandinavia-Rhine-Rhône-Western Mediterranean Great Axis Network and its zone of influence, and seek the transfer to rail of 30-35% of the land traffic. The FERRMED project will also improve the conditions of capacity, intermodality and interoperability of the rail in the Great Axis Network.
